Forest Falls

Awesome May weekend #3...Forest Falls. We had nothing planed for the day, so Mom and Dad started discussing what we could do. I think one of the main factors was "cheap". Mom suggested Forest Falls, a little community tucked back in the San Bernardino Mountains. Dad was instantly sceptical as to what exactly we were going to do there. I, upon hearing the word water fall, instantly wanted to go. So we packed a lunch and jumped in the car to go.
It was a little chilly, but the sun was shinning and the sky perfectly clear. We parked and ate our lunch. Then we started down the little hiking trail. I was insistent on doing it "mine self", even though I had a few stumbles because I wasn't looking where I was going.
There was still some snow up on the mountains, which was really cool! I could hear the waterfall and that spurred me on to get there.

We got to one point in the trail where a creek is running through. Mom and Dad realized there was no bridge and we were going to do a little rock hopping to get over it. I wouldn't have minded plowing right through the water, but Mom said it was too fast and cold for me to do that. She is always spoiling my fun!
Me and Dad, doing the rock dance.

They did let me walk over this little log. It was a bit shaky, but I made it over.
Once we made it across the creek and over a little hill I saw it....THE FALLS! They were so awesome. There were tons of little falls and pools coming down the mountain. This is as far as we hiked up. It's all big slippery boulders from here, so we didn't chance it.

I had so much fun throwing rocks and sticks into the water. Mom and Dad stayed close by to make sure I didn't dive in. I thought it would be a fun ride, but they assured me it wouldn't!
An action shot of my sweet throwing abilities.

Me, doing some river plumbing.

I started to get some mud and build a little castle, but Mom was right--the water was freezing!

It really is so beautiful up there. It will be the perfect place to go in the scorching Redlands summer.
Mom and Dad even said when it gets warmer they will let me go in the water. I'm holding them to that one! I'm so glad we discovered this awesome place so close to home.

We walk across that same log every time we go there! I always wonder why we bother because in the end we are soaked.

I have a new free gem close to home. Highland has a fabulous library full of snakes, lizards, and birds.

I'm not sure if I can convince Eric to go to that one...but Max and I will go for sure! Thanks for the tip.
