On Sunday my Nana passed away. I feel very lucky to have spent so much time with her the first year of my life, although I know she was very sick. She was there when I was born, spending three days and nights at the hospital with Mom until I decided to come out. She stayed up a lot of nights with me so Mom could sleep...I was quite a screamer, so it couldn't have been much fun! She loved me so much that she was willing to sacrifice sleep for me. Mom said that's just how she was, always sacrificing for other people.
When she was sick, I loved to go in her room in the mornings to wake her up. I would crawl on her bed squealing until she opened her eyes and said "Maxy!" I could tell she was very beautiful from her wonderful blue eyes, big smile, and big laugh...even though it made her cough. Mom tells me she had spikey blonde hair, but I will always remember her bald like me. I have the most awesome sweater she knit for me with a skull on it. It took her a long time to finish it, but I loved wearing it so much...especially on my first Halloween.
Mom tells me that she was such a great Nana and is so sorry I won't get to go to Nana camp or conference with her. She tells me how energetic she was and how she loved to play games and go swimming with her grandkids. I wish Nana could have gone to the beach or Disneyland with me, because we both love those places so much. Maybe that is a little part of Nana that is in me.
I know I will miss my Nana. I still go into her room to see if she is there. I am going to try to live the best I can so I can be with her again. I love you Nana.
